Moscow International Film School is a state school where senior pupils (12-17 years) alongside humanitarian education (state standard certificate) attain training in the sphere of cinema, theatre and television. There are more than 100 pupils in the Film School in workshops: “Director”, “Cameraman”, “Screenwriter”, “Actor” and “Producer”. The Film School was established in 1991 in a number of first innovational schools in Russia. The founders of MIFS are Moscow Committee on Education, Ministry of Culture of the RF and All-Russian State Institute of Cinematography.
As a rule Film School graduates enter artistic and humanitarian higher institutions, work at central TV channels, in film companies, theatres and mass media.
Chief education principle in the Film School –
IS TO MASTER THE OUTSIDE WORLD BY INTERFERING IN IT WITH REAL CREATIVE ACTIVITY.
Basic form to put this into reality is projects and expeditions’ work. Each project is organized so that creative and professional work in it (i.e. a film or a performance) is at the same time a research of society sores and an addressed help to teenagers who grew outcasts, victims and renegades. Among recent project of the Film School there are joint theatre work with asylum children (Uglich, Saratov, Samara, Rostov-on-Don), video-research of Gulag and Holocaust history, creation of memorials to new martyrs (Solovki, Belarus), conducting of creative workshops on photography, video and drawing for children-refugees and underage convicts (Voronezh, Kaluga, Volgograd, Kaliningrad, Arkhangelsk regions).
Each year the Film School carries out international educational projects with partners from Germany, the USA, England, Italy, Austria, Belgium and other countries.
Besides basic secondary school subjects we teach History of Arts, History of Religion, Actor’s Skills, Psychology, Philosophy and Pedagogics; we conduct film sessions of world classics on wide screen. Once a year the Film School organizes open lecture sessions. Theme and programme of each session are destined to unite all the uncoordinated subjects knowledge, to help each pupil experience personal informal contact with culture. Latest sessions were devoted to the issues of Faith, super-abilities of people, “heroes of our time” and the future of Russia. We invite leading specialists in arts, science, pedagogics, and philosophy for our sessions.
Admission to our School is conducted in the end of May and in August-September each year. To enter the Film School one needs to go through special creative competition, that includes an interview, creative abilities’ examination, a task for a group work and a number of psychological and general education tests.
